The Multiple Sclerosis clinic provides diagnosis and treatment of Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
The mandate of the UBC Hospital MS Clinic has been a multidisciplinary team approach with the end goal of finding the cause and cure of MS through patient management and education, research, and teaching.
The UBC Hospital MS Clinic is located at the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health. The MS Clinic has seen over 10,000 patients and cares for 80 to 90 per cent of MS patients in BC.
From the beginning, the MS Clinic adopted a multidisciplinary team approach, with many different health care professionals including, neurologists, neuro-ophthalmologists, urologists, nurses, social workers, physio and occupational therapists, psychiatrists, and genetic counselors working together to support patient treatment, education and research. The team also works hand in hand with imaging specialists and bench scientists, who are all searching for new, innovative ways to diagnose and treat MS.
The UBC Hospital MS Clinic also continues to be innovative in disease management and research. The clinic is a national clinical trial centre for new pharmaceutical therapies, such as imaging research and advanced genetics and immunology research, and is home to the world’s largest MS registries (database) of over 7500 patients. Many of these patients have been followed for over 25 years. The Clinic neurologists and staff strive to provide ongoing treatment and support, and provide information for patients with MS and their families.
